[yet another post about The Office]

[yeah, welcome to this all-too-often recurring segment of my blogging life.]

i think the biggest problem i'm having with the show now is that i am having to force myself to "know" these aren't real people anymore, that they are huge, blown-out caricatures of "real people." when The Office began, everyone was believable to an extent with their quirks and sometimes bizarre behavior. its part of the reason why last night's episode is being deemed Worst Episode Ever: Andy dressed up as a mechanic? Dwight & Andy successfully convincing Michael the insurance thing was a Mafia operation? Kevin using Jim's office as a fart receptacle? these (to me, at least) are things just so far out of the realm of possibility that it just feels like the writers are trying to hard.

its not that i can't enjoy the absolute absurdity; its that i don't think i should turn my brain around to think "there is no way this is in any way possible," because that's not what the show was about when it first began (and not what the original Office was ever about). sure, situations were tweaked to an extent as to make things slightly ridiculous, but there was always a hint of truth, teetering on the edge of "well... i honestly could see that happening."

maybe its why i'm enjoying Parks & Recreation more than The Office these days: i knew from the start that the show was going to be redonkulous, even with its Office-esque documentary style.

my solution: let Jim & Pam have their baby by the season finale, then end the show, allowing NBC to give everyone a fond sendoff and good memories. we've already quit TiVoing one of our favorite shows this year (Medium's move to CBS has been an absolute, unequivocal disaster). i don't wanna see the day when we do the same for The Office.

thoughts?

the Office wedding

initially, i thought there were some good, solid bits in here.

but the more i thought about it, the more it just felt kinda'... lazy. the Three Wolves t-shirt? that YouTube dance? i admit, i laughed at the Three Wolves shirt, but the YouTube wedding intro dance thing... ehhh...

i hope this season doesn't just spiral downward like season, although... i think now that the wedding is over, they should kill the show. done. that's it.
